hey anna,

i'm looking to buy a digital slr next paycheck. do you have any recommendations for something entry level or conversely, anything i should avoid? preferably i'd buy used if i can find one, if that makes any difference.

Hey Anna's Friend Whom I Do Not Know Really!

I am a photokid, too, and since Anna has the RESOURCES to shoot film CONSTANTLY (I, obviously, do not), I would be happy to answer your question.

Get the Nikon D60! I am a Canon shooter myself (recent convert), but only because it suits my kind of photography. I always recommend Nikon to people just getting into SLRs. They are incredibly intuitive, very well-built, and incredibly responsive. The kit lenses aren't bad, either! The D60 also has the expeed processor (which is also found in the D300 and D3!!), which is supposed to be fantastic.
